Pattern Echo: the light-and-sound memory game
Watch the lights, hear the tones, repeat the growing pattern.
Four colored pads, each with its own tone. The game plays a pattern; you play it back. Every correct round adds one more step. How long a sequence can you hold in your head?
How to play Pattern Echo
- Press Start and watch the first pad light up.
- Repeat the sequence by tapping the pads or pressing 1–4.
- Each round adds one step to the end.
- Normal mode replays the pattern after a mistake; Strict mode ends the game.
Tips and strategy
- Hum the tones — sound memory backs up visual memory.
- Chunk long patterns into groups of three or four.
- Say the colors in your head as they flash.
- If you're a visual learner, picture the pads as a clock: top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right.
About the game
Repeat-the-pattern games are a classic way to test working memory, the short-term 'scratchpad' you use to hold information for a few seconds. Many people can hold around seven items before it gets hard.
