Minesweeper online: classic mine-finding logic

Clear the field using number clues. Easy, medium and expert boards.

Each number tells you how many mines touch that square. Use those clues to work out where every mine hides, flag them, and open everything else. Your first click is always safe, so the opening is luck-free — the rest is pure logic.

How to play Minesweeper

  1. Click or tap a square to open it.
  2. A number shows how many of the eight neighbors are mines.
  3. Right-click, long-press, or turn on Flag mode to mark a mine.
  4. Click an opened number whose flags are all placed to open its remaining neighbors (chording).
  5. Open every safe square to win.

Tips and strategy

  • A '1' touching exactly one closed square means that square is a mine.
  • Learn the 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 patterns along walls — they resolve instantly.
  • Flag only when you're sure; chording on a wrong flag ends the game.
  • If you truly must guess, guess in the open middle where a lucky reveal gives the most information.

About the game

Mine-finding grid puzzles date back to early computer games of the 1980s and became a staple of desktop computers. Our boards use the familiar beginner, intermediate and expert sizes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the first click really safe?

Yes. Mines are placed after your first click, never on or next to it.

How do I flag on a phone?

Long-press a square, or turn on Flag mode and tap.

Why is the expert board scrollable?

At 30 columns it's wider than most phones, so it scrolls sideways instead of shrinking to unreadable squares.

Are best times saved?

Yes, per difficulty, in your browser.
